The office in Kuopio provides expert and laboratory research services on animal diseases. Its main focus areas include animal bacterial diseases as well as livestock and particularly ruminant diseases and post mortem examinations, fish and crayfish disease research and bee disease research. Stallion CEM research as well as bee and crayfish disease research have been centralised to the office in Kuopio, as have salmonella identification services and primary production EHEC infection-related reference laboratory activities.

The office in Loimaa focuses on seed inspection tasks such as the inspection and approval of certified seeds, variety testing, plant refinement permit and plant species list matters, the market surveillance of seed sales and wild oat supervision. The seed laboratory is responsible for the analysis of seed and potate samples. Loimaa is home to other Finnish Food Authority activities, such as organic farming supervision.

The office in Oulu conducts animal disease-related research and expert services. The office’s focus areas are wild and aquatic animal diseases as well as livestock diseases and post-mortem examinations for the region of Northern Finland. Special parasitology services have been centralised to the office in Oulu, and it also houses the national reference laboratory for parasitology.

The laboratory services in Seinäjoki conduct animal disease-related research laboratory studies and provide expert services related to the topic. Seinäjoki is also the location for livestock (pigs, ruminants, poultry and fur animals) disease research and post-mortem examinations. All fur animal research has been centralised to the office in Seinäjoki.
