Plants: control

The aim of the processes within plant production is to ensure the prerequisites for and the competitiveness of domestic production by eradicating harmful organisms, ensuring the conformity, safety and quality of input (seeds, propagating materials and plant materials, forest reproductive materials, fertiliser products and soil improvers), organising controls at the receipt of the intervention stocks of cereals, combating wild oats, testing plant varieties and being responsible for plant variety rights and the preparation and publication of the national list of plant varieties.

The controls are implemented based on a control plan. The Finnish Food Authority directs the controls of the other authorities and for example the Finnish Food Authority, ELY Centres and authorised inspectors carry out the control work. The implementation of the controls is described in the multiannual national control plan for the food chain (VASU) and the results of the controls are reported annually.
