There are currently no harmonized conditions in the European Union for the import of gametes (semen, ova and embryos) of dogs, cats and ferrets from non-EU countries and there are no health certificate requirements. Imports from all countries are allowed. However, the consignment must be accompanied by an identification document indicating the purpose and destination of the consignment.
The consignment must be subject to a border inspection at a border inspection post when the products enter the EU. The control of border control is based on the CN (Combined Nomenclature) system.
Prior notification of the import of a consignment must be made in TRACES
EU border inspection posts can be found on the Commission's website
The products to be subject to border checks by CN code are listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/632
