Intervention stocks of skimmed milk powder

Skimmed milk powder in the European Union may be sold into intervention storage at a fixed price between 1 March to 30 September annually.  The intervention price paid for the SMP is EUR 169.80/100 kg.

The EU’s annual milk powder reception quota is 109.000 tonnes. Once the quota is fulfilled, purchases may, when deemed necessary by the European Commission, be continued through a tender procedure.

Skimmed milk powder is sold from intervention stocks following decisions of the European Commission.

In Finland intervention stocks are administered by the Finnish Food Authority.
