Finnish Food Authority Sustainability Objectives

The Finnish Food Authority’s sustainability objectives are based on the agency’s strategic goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main objectives are to increase our positive impact (handprint) and reduce our negative impact (footprint). These objectives are pursued, among other means, by reducing the Authority’s carbon emissions and promoting employee well-being and competence development.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The Finnish Food Authority contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The goals identified as most relevant to the Authority are:

Main Themes of the Finnish Food Authority’s Sustainability Work

In line with the Authority’s strategy, four common sustainability themes have been defined, together with related objectives and performance indicators. The indicator framework will continue to be developed in 2026 as part of the implementation of the updated strategy.

  • Employee Job Satisfaction Index 
    • Target: Job satisfaction remains at a good level.
    • 2025 status: 3.09 
  • Supervisory Work Index
    • Target: Leadership is clear and consistent across the Authority, and supervisors receive adequate support.
    • 2025 status: 3.46 
  • Responsibility Index 
    • Target: To be updated.
    • 2025 status: 2.70 
  • Employee Education Level 
    • Target: Staff competence meets the Authority’s strategic and operational needs.
    • 2025 status: 80% of personnel hold a higher education degree (ranging from lower tertiary degrees to doctoral qualifications). 
  • Number of Occupational Accidents
    • Target: Comprehensive reporting of near misses and hazardous situations to prevent accidents.
    • 2025 status: 54

Specific Objective: We reduce our carbon footprint and continuously improve our ways of working.

    • 2025 status: 9.40 million kg CO₂ equivalent.
  • Development of Sustainable Procurement
    • Target: To be updated.
    • 2025 status: During 2025, procurement categories continued to be reviewed from a low-carbon perspective, and the significance of each category to the overall carbon footprint was assessed.
  • Continuous Improvement Actions
    • Target: Improvement needs are identified and operations are continuously enhanced.
    • 2025 status: 88 continuous improvement actions completed.

    • Target: Remains at a good level.
    • 2025 status: Customer satisfaction improved compared with the previous year. Overall customer satisfaction on a scale of 1–4 was 3.32, and satisfaction with online services was 3.16.
  • Availability of Digital Services
    • Target: >99.9%
    • 2025 status: 99.7%
  • Number of Accessibility Complaints Concerning Websites and E-Services
    • Target: 0
    • 2025 status: 0
