Information on the import requirements for pets into China can be found from the notification of the Chinese Customs 5/2019

China´s requirements for pets from Finland brought into the country

  • only one dog or cat can be brought to China at a time.
  • select a designated point of entry (doc) where the Customs can inspect your pet.
  • prior to departure, the pet needs an official health certificate issued by the municipal veterinarian no more then 14 days prior to arrival in China.
    • the health certificate may be free-form, but must indicate the following information:
      • pets have a microchip of ISO 11784 and 11785; the 15-digit code must contain only numbers.
      • rabies vaccination dates and time of blood samling to be sent for antibody testing. Two rabies vaccinations must be given and a blood sample for antibody testing must be taken only after the 2nd vaccine has been given (may be on the same day).
      • the rabies antibody test result must be above 0.5IU/ml and is valid for one year from blood sampling; if the pet is revaccinated with rabies vaccine during this period, the validity of the antibody test will continue. The rabies antibody test report must be issued by an approved laboratory (doc).
      • pets must arrive in China during a valid rabies vaccine and a valid antibody test.
      • the certificate shall confirm that the pet is in good health and that there is no suspicion of animal diseases opposed by China (docx).
  • inform the Chinese Customs at the airport with the registration form for bringing in pets (doc) and take the pet to an inspection.
    • pets are checked at a designated point of entry. The release, quarantine or termination depends on the inspection results. If the documents are in order, your pet is released immediately. If the documents are incomplete or your pet lacs a nicrochip, the animal will remain in the Customs in isolation for 30 days. If the animal is not collected on the specified date, it will be euthanized.
