Our recent study screening for potential pests of Nordic coniferous forests associated with the trade of ornamental plants identified white-marked tussock moth (Orgyia leucostigma) and pine needle scale (Chionaspis pinifoliae) to potentially fulfil the criteria to become regulated as quarantine pests in the EU and Norway.
In this project full pest risk assessments (PRA) according to the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM-standards) will be done for these two pests. The PRAs will be done according to the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) scheme for an Express Pest Risk Analysis. The results of the project can be used to decide whether the assessed pests should be regulated as quarantine pests in the EU and Norway.
The project is done in collaboration between the Finnish Food Authority, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) and European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO).
