Assessing the reliability of food companies

A company operating in the food sector must ensure the safety of food products, comply with food regulations and take care of the safety of consumers. The reliability of economic activities is also assessed, for example, by monitoring the payment of taxes and other statutory fees.

The Compliance Report (VHS for short in Finnish), already in use in several sectors, will also be adopted in food control.

The Compliance Report is an updated summary of the essential records held by the authorities. The Compliance Reports are issued by the Grey Economy Information Unit. The reports help authorities target and execute their control measures.

Section 7 of the Food Act provides for the reliability of a food business operator. The provision entered into force on 1 June 2020.
