Municipal food control authorities control, based on the OIVA system, the occurrence of genetically modified ingredients and the use of the "gmo free" marketing claim in accordance with Finnish Food Authority's guidelines. A specific market control study conducted by Finnish Food Authority was not considered necessary on risk basis in the years 2014 – 2017. The gm analyses carried out by the Customs were considered to be adequate and correctly proportioned considering the size of our country, the amount of genetically modified foods, and the safety risk caused by them.
