Control of food supplements

Like other foods, food supplements also fall under the control of municipal food control authorities. Products imported into Finland are controlled by the Customs. As the authority in charge of control, the Finnish Food Authority also participates in control and has its own investigations conducted, if necessary. Sales bans that apply to the whole country are also imposed by the Food Authority.

The control authorities will take action regarding the marketing of an individual product, when there is cause to suspect that the product has adverse effects on health or if the information provided on the product is deficient or false or in some other respect in violation with provisions and regulations.
