On 12 June 2025, the Pirkanmaa District Court has issued a verdict of fraud against a person who participated in organizing Hygiene Passport tests in Tampere between 2019 and 2022. The Hygiene Passport tests were special situation tests translated into foreign language, and over 100 people participated in them over the years.
The translator partially procured the test participants for the Hygiene Passport tests and translated the test statements into another language. Almost all test participants passed the Hygiene Passport test with the help of the markings marked on the translations that guided them to the correct answers.
The convicted person participated in organizing Hygiene Passport tests through a Hygiene Passport Examiner approved by the Finnish Food Authority, and the Hygiene Passport Examiner in question was also misled. By invoicing the test subjects, the convicted person accumulated an unjustified financial benefit for itself. The Hygiene Passport Examiner involved in the case was not charged in the criminal case. The Pirkanmaa District Court sentenced the translator to a suspended sentence of 70 days in prison and ordered the translator to pay compensation of 2,900 euros to the state.
The Finnish Food Authority will revoke the Hygiene Passports of persons who have participated in the Hygiene Passport tests in question and thus received their Hygiene Passports on false grounds.
