Finland to host EFSA Advisory Forum meeting

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will hold its Advisory Forum meeting in Helsinki on 18 - 19 September 2019. At the meeting, representatives from the Member States, delegates from Norway and Iceland and observers from Switzerland and the EU Candidate Countries will hold comprehensive discussions about topical EFSA matters and new developments, such as assessing combined exposure to multiple chemicals.  The meeting will also include a presentation about the risk assessment activities of the Finnish Food Authority.

The EFSA Advisory Forum acts as a liaison between the national food safety authorities and the EFSA. Finland’s representative in the Forum is Pia Mäkelä, Deputy Director General of the Food Chain Division of the Finnish Food Authority. Jaana Husu-Kallio, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Chair of the EFSA Management Board, and Antti-Jussi Oikarinen, Director General of the Finnish Food Authority, will speak at the meeting on behalf of the host country. The meeting will be chaired by EFSA Executive Director Bernhard Url.

The meeting is part of the official programme of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.
