Dogs, cats and ferrets

NB! Information about Brexit.

Certain requirements concerning animal health are applied in the movements of dogs, cats and ferrets between EU-countries. These requirements are adhered to according to the currently valid so called pet regulation (Regulation (EC) no. 576/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council).

Definitions

The objective of non-commercial movement of dogs, cats and ferrets should not be selling the animal or the exchange of ownership. Pet animal stands for an animal that is accompanied by its owner or an authorised person during movement. The owner or the authorised person is responsible for the animal during movement. The movement of the animal must happen within five days of the same journey that was done by the owner. Requirements for non-commercial movements can be found on this website

The following instances are considered as trade of dogs, cats and ferrets: the purpose of the movement is to sell the animal or transfer the animal to a new owner, the animal is transported alone as cargo or the animal travels with a person who is not the owner. The requirements for trade of the animals can be found on this website.
