The research activities of the Finnish Food Authority consist of scientific research as well as applied research and development, producing multidisciplinary and societally significant knowledge in collaboration with domestic and international partners. This work addresses topics such as One Health, food safety, nutrition, sustainable food production as well as security of supply and food security.
Scientific research and risk assessment are statutory tasks of the Finnish Food Authority. Research-based knowledge supports decision-making, and research results are utilized in directing control measures, preparing legislation, developing international standards and guidelines as well as conducting risk assessments across various sectors.
Collaboration within national and international networks involving universities, research institutes, industries and other stakeholders is central to research work. For the Finnish Food Authority, research is also important for strengthening expertise and professional competence, developing research infrastructure and methods as well as supporting reference laboratory activities.
