Finnish timber

The Timber Regulation applies to operators placing timber and timber products on the EU market for the first time. It also applies to Finnish forest owners.

The legality of the timber harvested in Finland must be demonstrated by means of the existing supervision systems laid down in the Forest Act. Therefore, a separate due diligence system is not required of Finnish forest owners, but the forest use declaration and the certificate of measurement on delivery are sufficient.

The Finnish Forest Centre keeps the forest use declarations for more than five years, and thus forest owners do not need to retain copies of the declarations. However, you should retain a copy of the certificate of measurement on delivery.

In the Åland Islands, a notification of thinning and a certificate of measurement on delivery are considered a due diligence system. These documents must be retained for at least 5 years.
