Regulation (EU No 609/2013) of the European Parliament and of the Council on food intended for infants and young children, food for special medical purposes and total diet replacement for weight control became applicable on 20 July 2016. It repealed Decree 121/2010 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on foods for particular nutritional uses.

The European Commission is preparing a Delegated Regulation regarding special requirements for the composition and labelling of baby foods. Decision 789/1997 of the Ministry of Trade and Industry on baby foods is applicable until the Delegated Regulation has been issued and adopted.

Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 provides for contaminants in baby foods.
