Summary:
Through the Digital Europe Programme and the European Data Strategy, the European Commission is promoting the creation of common European data spaces to foster innovation and build a thriving data economy while adhering to ethical and legal standards. These data spaces are essential for advancing artificial intelligence and Cloud-to-Edge computing and are supported by legislative frameworks such as the Data Governance Act (DGA) and the Data Act (DA).
The Common European Agricultural Data Space (CEADS) focuses on the agri-food sector by bringing together data, infrastructures, governance frameworks, and business models to facilitate secure and trusted data sharing.
The objective of the CEADS project is to deploy this data space and ensure secure and reliable data sharing across the agri-food sector, including public administrations. The project aims to generate economic, environmental, and societal value while maintaining high standards of privacy, security, and ethics.
The implementation of CEADS follows a lightweight, multifunctional development approach based on innovation ecosystem science and practice. This approach includes the deployment of CEADS through three consecutive Minimum Viable Product (MVP) cycles, incorporating co-design and adaptation phases, deployment and integration, testing and operation, and evaluation. The project will conclude with a comprehensive roadmap and sustainability plan to support the expansion and consolidation of CEADS.
Objectives:
- Build a Common European Agricultural Data Ecosystem (Data Space) that enables stakeholders to securely and efficiently share, use, and manage data.
- Promote data interoperability and openness across countries, organizations, and technologies.
- Support sustainability, innovation, and evidence-based policymaking in agriculture through enhanced use of data.
- Enable the development of new services and solutions, such as:
- smart farming practices,
- environmental impact monitoring, and
- optimization of agricultural and food supply chains.
