Determination of the connection between domestic cases of human enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) and strains of bovine Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC)

The objective is to determine the connection between domestic cases of human EHEC and strains of bovine STEC in order to renew the STEC programme of beef production on the basis of scientific information. The bacterial strains of the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare and the Finnish Food Authority are being compared using a typing method based on whole genome sequencing. At the same time, a harmonised method will be created for the comparison of STEC bacteria between different institutions.
