Assesment instructions under preparation for food contact material control

A guideline and inspection forms have been drawn up for the control of contact material activities. Both the guidelines and the forms are available on the Food Authority's website. The guidelines and inspection forms are intended as a guide for both inspectors and contact material handlers.

Ruokavirasto have also Evaluation guidelines for food contact material operations for authorities and food contact material operators.

The guide and the forms have intended to be as a guide for inspectors and business operators

The inspection forms have seven different topics to be assessed:

  1. Information concerning the quality management system
  2. Product composition management
  3. Testing
  4. Certificates of product conformity
  5. Labelling to be affixed to products
  6. Traceability
  7. Processing methods/processes

Assessment is graded on a scale of A-D as follows:

A = compliant

B = good, minor deficiencies might exist

C = corrective action required, deficiencies/shortcomings that jeopardise food safety and which must be corrected within a deadline

D = poor, deficiencies/shortcomings that jeopardise food safety and which must be corrected immediately.
