Food business operators must, at all stages of production, processing and distribution, ensure that:

• food is safe,
• food or the information provided about it does not mislead consumers,
• operations, products and the information provided about products comply with the requirements of food legislation.

Food that is unsafe or otherwise non-compliant must not be placed on the market.
