FutureFoodS - European partnership for a sustainable Future of Food System

FutureFoodS is an innovative European partnership focused on transforming Europe's food production and consumption towards more sustainable and resilient systems. This partnership brings together leading experts, research institutions, businesses and policymakers to develop joint solutions to the complex challenges facing our food systems, such as climate change, biodiversity loss and food security.

By integrating breakthrough technologies, circular economy principles and sustainability strategies, FutureFoodS aims to minimise the environmental footprint of food production, improve consumer health and ensure the economic viability of the food chain. This collaboration is committed to innovation and knowledge sharing to achieve a resilient and sustainable future for the European food systems.

The mission is to mobilize research and innovation in Europe to accelerate the transition from linear food chains towards circular food systems that function within planetary boundaries. The food chains include production, processing, distribution, and consumption. The Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) serves as the backbone of this effort, with the goal of identifying key levers of change to be implemented across Europe, considering social, economic, and environmental factors.

The outcomes of the partnership are:

  • Harmonizing efforts by pooling research and innovation resources and programming;
  • Launching of an observatory to track the state of the food systems transition;
  • Establishing a Knowledge Hub of Living Labs to maintain a participative approach;
  • Sharing knowledge to strengthen the food systems community.
